Check out the A Gnomey Hat SDK blog post for the free pattern, lots of cute pics of kiddos in Gnomey Hats and yarn ideas.
Raising my children in a Waldorf inspired homeschool community, the little gnomes scampering about were a common site. When they began knitting, these hats were one of their first projects. Not only are they quite simple, they are with super bulky yarn and large needles, making them a super quick knit for an adult or a reasonable undertaking for little hands. I have a lot of warm and fuzzy feelings when it comes to little (and big) gnomes going about their gnomey day and this pattern holds a special place in my heart, honoring that time I had with my boys in the Boreal Forest of Alaska.
